About this edition

The 38th edition, the first of 2018, took place on 10 March in Orchide's conference room and was about active citizenship: why it matters that citizens take part in public life.

Betim Musliu, executive director of the Kosovo Law Institute (IKD), talked about the institute's work monitoring the courts and advocating for the rule of law in Kosovo. IKD does research, holds round tables and conferences, and advocates on judicial reform, legislative initiatives, the enforcement of laws, alignment with EU and UN standards, legal education and media literacy.

Roberta Osmani, senior researcher in the Good Governance Programme at Democracy Plus, with a master's in public policy from Indiana University, presented the Ndreqe.com platform and the organisation's work running and promoting it. It connects citizens with their municipality to quickly report six kinds of problems: potholes, broken pavements, sewage, rubbish and illegal dumps, broken street lighting and missing road signs.

Valentina Abazi, manager of the Good Governance Programme at INPO and a graduate in English Language and Literature from the University of Pristina, presented the INPO handbook “Strengthening Public Participation in Decision-Making at the Municipal Level”, which explains in plain language how citizens can take part in local decisions.

Organised by BarCamp Ferizaj's team of young activists, under the umbrella of Iniciativa për Progres (INPO), with the support of IPKO Foundation.
